I really have not been keeping up with the latest and greatest in DCC. I defer to those who have. However, we should go for high reliability as well as functionality.
As stated in other spots, I am not DCC knowledgeable. So I have to go at this differently. How many locos will this run at the same time. How much power will be available for lighting and sound.
I am 100% behind wireless/radio throttles.
Since we have block detection that opens a sound door thats huge. Train mounted sound is ok but cannot match decent speakers under the layout for quality and volume. When you have block detection, you can have sound that follows the loco and is far superior to train mounted.
And now my probably dufuss idea. How about considering putting piano hinge on the side of a module to let it drop down and be a DCC programming track. Maybe more than one side could drop for more length.
